Since Christmas is a time to remember and replay with shared memories, I trot this out every Christmas/New Years season like a ritual; The look!! The lights!! A tune I first heard in summer 1979 and was hit with a burst of full-on Boardwalk Boulevard Party-Power rock/blues/soul/jazz fusion (The swing!! The HORNS!!)
This caused me to want to investigate further who this dude was. In his evolution he didn't compose many more like this using such West Side Story vernacular and coloring -- he was already movin on in his palettes and coloring books -- but this was a flare of a signpost along the way which then included lifts from both Manfred Mann and the Pointer Sisters covering him on top 40 radio. What was that name again??
Before that he was like a some phantom shared secret -- revolutionary, society-overturning lyrics scrawled on the walls of college bathrooms keeping Punk alive when the spirit of CBGB's was in the air everywhere;
AM alternative college stations playing some incendiary bootlegged live track in an era when that was still blessedly possible and lawyers didn't own quite as much of the world.
We've chartered a course from CBGB's to CBDCs in way too quick of a heartbeat.
It was fun to be hangin ten on the forefront of something before anyone else knew -- before the wave crested. Smack dab in a town where he'd played parking decks in the financial district downtown 10 years and several bands before...Crankin out the news and testifying when some of us were still listening to the Partridge Family!! LOL.
This network live gig via a now-embalmed legacy media stands as one of the final blasts of that enduring era when soul world was the whole world -- and it came 23 Christmases later at a time many of us were struggling to remember what was special about what we never forgot.
Now it's been ANOTHER 23 (!!) And this strata of unclassifiable isn't made anymore, not in any way, shape or form...
...yet somehow still stands testament to that place in our hearts where we're always the Punks....

Under the tree Christmas mic drop.
One of my fondest childhood memories was when I was four, we were living in a remote, rural area, surrounded by thick woods, and my father would bring me near the forest, all along the old train track, to pick wild berries: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, but best of all the biggest, juiciest blackberries I've ever seen in my life. This single memory somehow justifies the rest of my harsh upbringing.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I'm bringing this up is because when I first watched the Director’s Cut of "Conan the Barbarian" 30 years later, there is an additional scene in which Conan and his friend are busy preparing weapons and traps for their enemies, and he starts talking about how his own father, when he was a little boy in the spring time, would bring him into the wilderness to pick as many delicious berries as possible, the last good memory he held on to dearly before the rest of his life turned to savagery and combat. His friend Subotai says something like: "Every man remembers such things, in the North of his heart."
Despite the fiction of it, we're still hunters and gatherers, 6 or 7 thousand years later, and it actually means something very important to us, beyond words.
It's in our DNA -- growing up when & how we did made us psychically and genetically available to everything we're being exposed to now -- all these dimensions above & below and all around us.

We are never ever EVER alone. And our bodies are temples of all that. Built that way. Designed that way.
Which is why I remain so incessant and enraged about the importance, and the monstrosity, of what happened beginning in 2020 -- a psyop leading to an unprecedented medical intervention of unimaginably evil proportions.
It's so important to understand that it targeted, and was bent on altering, ALL OF HUMANITY; siphoning it away from the intention of God. To take away that DNA-level protection I was just talking about.
To disconnect us.
I was never religious, just spiritual, even before 2020. But everything after has opened my, and I think a lot of people's, eyes to something larger that has always been in the background of all our lives. The power and the presence of God.
Because something THAT evil, that supernaturally coordinated and fastidious in its deployment, has GOT to be rebelling against something HUGE.
And something it fears.
