In this post I have a theory -- let's probe around the edges that may prove or disprove it. The film Alien was a game-changer, and for anyone that saw it in the theatre in that summer of 1979 the psychic ripples were both seismic and subconsciously unforgettable. Indelible even. It seethed with an aura of unanswered questions, and mystery of the true unknown -- of variables so non-human they can never be answered. But amidst all the chest-bursting, oral-rape horror, the true monstrosity was unveiled in a few sci-fi green computer font reveals on a black screen. And that motivation would prove all too human in origin. Because it was then that we found out the real enemy... was us.

The dread and mystery of then relatively-unknown H. R. Giger's artwork, which so informed and possessed the whole vibe of the film with a sense around the edges of the dark, satanic, and otherworldly, the subliminally sexual (symbolic phalluses and female orifices abounding) and forbidden, was no match for the unveiling which was a gift that would keep on giving in its reveal: Crew Expendable. Accents on the first and last syllables of "Mu" and "Ur." Cradle of Civilization and Chariots of the Gods, anyone? Scott was weaving his web with clues but leading us by not directly answering anything...allowing our charged imaginations to fill in the blanks. 

But it was then, in that moment and amidst all this sensory influx, that we truly learned the Nature of the Beast: that we are all pawns and sacrifices to executive forces bent on our destruction. That some militaristic board of directors to a nameless, faceless Corporate monstrosity could view us as simple tools to be experimented upon -- means to an end with no human value. That mantra extends into every single corner of our world today, from Big Tech to Big Pharma to genetic experiments to screwing with out DNA to whatever is happening at CERN and DARPA and far, far beyond...our future was written in that green font 44 summers ago, when Ridley Scott pinned the tail on the donkey and performed a rug-pull that still resonates today.

If only that warning had ended there....but it has progressed so much farther and become so much worse in the interim.

Take the metaphysical warnings and primers that were encoded in the films Hereditary and Midsommar by Ari Aster. Both were released in June 2018 and August 2019 respectively and feature startling parallels with what was about to be unleashed on the world: creating doubt, distance, and the breakdown of the family connection between friends and loved ones; the ultimate softening-up of the collective, the planting of seeds in the collective subconscious. Hereditary itself can be seen as engineered to put as many people as possible into a collective trance and or medium-state and also serve as a summoning; a mass ritual for humanity. Then there is the disproportionate number of representations of what appear to be empty vessels in that artwork. This begins to become mind-boggling when you start to think about it. The symbolism.
