Here I am voodoo lounging on the cusp of goodbye to one more Labor Day, reading all the stellar reviews of Oasis coming Stateside to the same raves that followed them in the UK since their Reunion gigs launched, and this one hits me right between the eyes -- why they matter, why it's now Oasis Vs The Machine, and why it's important to me.
Aside from being a huge fan, these articles, and the band, the brothers themselves, strike at the very core of everything, at bottom, that I write about in this section -- and always have ever since the waning days of 2011 when this particular enterprise launched on its own "5 year mission" that has turned into a winding road considerably longer and more involved in hairpin twists and turns, more charted esper capability, and more probing the borders of the edge of the universe, than I ever imagined would be its lot 14 years ago.
So as a doomsday deferred placeholder between the usual fare, I beg you give these a read and some pondering.
They're Why Oasis Matters.
Because our world, in the end, just might hinge on the little things that turned out to be greater than anyone could've ever dreamed. Because all of a sudden this summer Oasis have reminded us of what we've lost, what was around in the monoculture before we fractured and splintered into niche cells of bully pulpit tribalism, judgement, loss of ability to think and speak as you saw fit, and collective bias. Nothing was ever perfect, but we were more....together....even in that millennial zeitgeist, even with all the blessed paranoia, from 1994-2000.
At least until 9/11 arrived to wash the cups and saucers, and brush the crumbs away. Because those goblins will get you if you don't watch out....
